Who Invented It? A Fascinating Journey into the Pharmacy Lab
The special exhibition "Who Invented It? Maybe a Pharmacist!" at the Brandenburg Pharmacy Museum Cottbus offers a surprising view of the history of scientific and technical innovations. The focus is on discoveries from three centuries that arose from pharmaceutical research, careful observation, and experimental curiosity.
Pharmacies as Workshops of Knowledge
For a long time, pharmacies were much more than places for medicine production. They served as laboratories, repositories of knowledge, and workshops of progress. The exhibition showcases, among other things, the production of beet sugar, the development of soda water, the isolation of morphine, early gas lighting systems, as well as the creation of UHU glue and Chlorodont toothpaste.
Pharmacy History Meets Everyday Culture
The presentation connects the history of science, the history of technology, and everyday culture into a vivid examination of work. Familiar products appear in a new light: behind them are historical processes, artisanal precision, and the pioneering spirit of female and male pharmacists. The exhibition makes visible how closely pharmaceutical practice, chemistry, and societal progress are interconnected.
Historical Rooms with a Unique Exhibition Atmosphere
The Brandenburg Pharmacy Museum is located in the former Löwen Pharmacy at the Cottbus Altmarkt. Historical pharmacy, herb chamber, poison chamber, and galenic laboratory shape the spatial experience. Wood, glass, ceramics, metal, herbs, containers, and laboratory equipment make the development of pharmacy sensually tangible. This creates a unique artistic experience, where aesthetic experience and cultural education come together.
Guided Tours and Education
A detailed guided tour of the special exhibition is possible with prior telephone registration. During a regular museum tour, the exhibition is introduced in a shorter form. Guided tours take place regularly from Tuesday to Friday at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, as well as on weekends and public holidays at 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. An audio guide in English and Polish complements the educational offer; personal headphones are required for this.
Conclusion: Science Comes Alive On-Site
The exhibition awaits its visitors with historical objects, surprising invention stories, and a dense museum atmosphere. Those interested in pharmacy, chemistry, technology history, everyday culture, and cultural education experience an educational and inspiring examination of work in Cottbus. A visit on-site is particularly worthwhile because the spaces, materials, and stories unfold their full impact only in direct artistic experience.
