Max-Grünebaum-Prizes 2026: A festive matinee for art, science and understanding
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the State Theatre Cottbus invites you to the festive matinee and award ceremony of the Max-Grünebaum-Prizes 2026. In the Great House, the event honors outstanding young artists of the State Theatre as well as scientists from the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg.
A special morning in the Great House
At 11:00 AM, the curtain will rise for an event that combines cultural distinction, memory culture, and social engagement. The supporting program is designed by members of the artistic ensembles of the State Theatre Cottbus. This creates a festive event atmosphere where the award ceremony and stage art intertwine directly.
Awards for young talents
Since 1997, the Max-Grünebaum Foundation has continued the idea of promotion of its namesake. The foundation awards special artistic achievements and exceptional commitment while also supporting scientific young talent. In 2026, the Max-Grünebaum-Prizes will be awarded for the 30th time. Additionally, the project week Research Theatre will receive support for the second time.
Memory, reconciliation, and future
The history of the foundation represents a remarkable bridge between Cottbus and England. Max Grünebaum, a Jewish cloth manufacturer, patron, and honorary citizen of the city of Cottbus, promoted art, science, and the common good during his lifetime. After the expulsion and expropriation of his family during the National Socialist era, his descendants founded the foundation in 1997 from compensation funds.
Thus, the event connects historical responsibility with current support for young talent. The award ceremony makes visible how from memory a future-oriented commitment to theatre, research, and international understanding emerges.
An event experience with impact
For the audience, the matinee offers a concentrated insight into the cultural and scientific life of Lusatia. Festive speeches, the honoring of the award winners, as well as musical and scenic contributions shape the audience's mood. The event management of the State Theatre and the Foundation effectively combines organization, event planning, and cultural target group outreach.
The Max-Grünebaum-Prizes 2026 show how lively an award ceremony can be when it unites personal stories, artistic quality, and social responsibility. Those who want to experience the spirit of this special Cottbus tradition firsthand will find a worthy setting for an inspiring Sunday morning in the Great House.
Conclusion: Experience Cottbus' engagement live
The festive matinee of the Max-Grünebaum-Prizes 2026 promises an impressive event experience between theatre, science, and memory culture. Admission is free. Visitors experience a traditional award ceremony, committed young talents, and a stage program with members of the State Theatre ensemble. A visit is worthwhile for all who want to discover Cottbus as a cultural city with values and a sense of future.
