Robin Hood brings courage, music, and justice to the Grand House
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the audience will experience the premiere of the Christmas fairy tale Robin Hood at the Grand House of the State Theater Cottbus. The production, directed by Angela Obst with lyrics by Josef Parzefall, is aimed at children aged six and older and combines an exciting adventure story with humor, music, and important questions about justice and solidarity.
An adventure in Sherwood Forest
In the county of Nottingham, the hardship is growing. King John demands ever higher taxes, while his own wealth keeps increasing. Deep in the forests of Sherwood, a brave band forms. Robin Hood, Little John, Brother Tuck, Scarlet Will, and Maid Marian stand against tyranny and fight for a fairer Nottingham.
Child-friendly theater with wit and excitement
The story offers families strong characters, clear conflicts, and many moments to cheer for. Linguistic wit, pop culture, and surprising twists make the Christmas fairy tale age-appropriate and lively. Children will experience how courage, friendship, and solidarity can change a community.
Songs, stage magic, and group singing
The lyrics by Josef Parzefall and the music by Bene Becker give the family experience a special sound. The musical direction is by Hans Petith. The songs reflect the wordplay of the story and invite the audience to sing along together. Thus, the theater visit becomes a sensual learning experience filled with children's laughter, wonder, and lots of fun learning.
Educationally valuable questions for the whole family
Director Paulina Neukampf focuses on questions that engage both children and adults together: What is just? Who owns what? And how much courage does a change require? The play opens up opportunities for discussion about responsibility, sharing, civil courage, and the value of a strong community.
Experienced team and barrier-free theater experience
Paulina Neukampf led the children's and youth theater section at the Theater Paderborn from 2020 to 2024 and has since worked as a freelance director. The production has been adapted in collaboration with the Cottbus acting ensemble for the State Theater Cottbus. The Grand House features a hearing loop and is wheelchair accessible. Advance registration with visitor services is recommended for wheelchair seating.
Special moments after the performance
After the applause, visitors can leave their own thoughts about what they would do with Robin Hood's loot during the activity A Tree Strengthens the Other. Additionally, an autograph session with the ensemble is planned in the dome foyer after the family performances.
Robin Hood promises a warm-hearted family experience full of adventure, music, and time together. Families will discover a well-known legend anew and take home valuable questions about courage, justice, and solidarity along with beautiful stage designs. Experience the theater evening live at the Grand House now.
