Lausitz Dance House Festival 2026: Two Days Full of Folk, Dance, and Song
On the first weekend of October, Mittendrin Cottbus will be transformed into a vibrant meeting place for folk enthusiasts, dance lovers, and curious beginners. The first Lausitz Dance House Festival combines live music, participatory dance, singing workshops, and Sorbian-Wendish dance traditions into a unique multi-day experience.
Festival Atmosphere with Lausitz Roots
The host is Serbska Reja, a multi-instrumental ensemble that has been teaching Lausitz dances in workshops and concerts for over ten years. The festival builds on the Dance House Lausitz that has been running for three years, where international folk, Balfolk, and Sorbian and Wendish dances are regularly danced together.
Live Music, Round Songs, and Traditional Dances
The lineup delves deep into the musical diversity of Lausitz and Europe. Serbska Reja will open the festival, and on the second evening, the Wilde Kapelle from Vienna will take the stage. The ensemble brings together musicians from various European countries and plays traditional dance music from northern and eastern Germany.
A workshop will focus on round songs, which are rooted especially in Africa. Together with professional singer Uta Šwejdźic, a musical narrative about Krabat and Maruša will be created in the choir. Instrumentalists will also discover Lausitz pop music of the 18th century from the Kralschen violin playbook in sessions.
Participation is Actively Encouraged
On the dance floor, no prior knowledge or fixed dance partner is necessary. Visitors can try out Sorbian and Wendish dances directly, learn new steps, and experience the strong sense of community of the dance house scene. Families are also part of the concept: a special family dance invites the youngest guests to participate.
A Festival for the Entire Folk Community
The Lausitz Dance House Festival combines festival atmosphere, cultural tradition, and collective music-making. Between the main program, workshops, and sessions, an open space for encounters, new festival friendships, and authentic folklore emerges. The festival organization is supported by the Foundation for the Sorbian People and the city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz.
Conclusion
Those who want to experience folk dance, live music, and regional culture up close will find a diverse program for all generations at the Lausitz Dance House Festival. Come to Mittendrin Cottbus, dance along, sing in the choir, and experience the premiere of this special Lausitz festival live.
