Pückler's Orient in Dialogue with Contemporary Art
In the Prince Pückler Museum Park & Castle Branitz, the special exhibition Strangers and Freedom: Connecting Worlds. Pückler's Orient in His Landscapes combines historical landscape aesthetics with contemporary painting and photography. On October 31, 2026, an art space opens in Castle Branitz where travel imagination, cultural encounter, and the creative idea of landscape intersect.
Painting and Photography as a Shared Image Whole
The painter Mona Höke and the photographic artist Kathrin Karras work in an extraordinary artistic cooperation. Both artists directly intervene in each other's works. Layering, reworking, intertwining, and assembling surfaces cause painting and photography to merge into a new whole.
Imaginations about Pückler's Journey to the Orient
For the historical breakfast room of Pückler, large-format works were created that do not narrate his journey through the Orient in a documentary manner but rather understand it as an open resonance space for imagination and vision. The works also refer to the world-connecting principle in Pückler's own landscapes and open a contemplation of the works between memory, wanderlust, and cultural translation.
Landscape as Aesthetic Experience
Hermann Prince of Pückler-Muskau appears in the exhibition as a world wanderer, landscape designer, and imaginative historical figure. His garden art serves as the art historical reference point for a contemporary intervention, where spatial impact, image surface, and photographic perception interact.
The exhibition atmosphere in Castle Branitz invites concentrated aesthetic experience. Colors, forms, photographic layers, and painterly overlays create a visual dialogue that connects historical spaces with contemporary art. The art experience is suitable for intense contemplation of the works as well as for cultural education and a new approach to Pückler's cosmopolitan thinking.

The exhibition is open on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission for adults is 11 euros, reduced 8 euros. The castle entry is included. Children and adolescents up to and including 18 years visit the exhibition for free.
