Strange and Freedom: Pückler's Orient as a Contemporary Art Experience

At the Fürst Pückler Museum Park & Schloss Branitz, historical landscape aesthetics meet contemporary art. The special exhibition Strange and Freedom: Connecting Worlds. Pückler's Orient in His Landscapes connects the travel imaginations of Hermann Prince Pückler-Muskau with an artistic intervention by Mona Höke and Kathrin Karras.

Painting and Photography in Dialogue

The painter Mona Höke and the photo artist Kathrin Karras not only work alongside each other but also directly interact with each other's works. Layering, reworking, weaving, and combining areas lead to a new image whole, where painting and photography transcend their boundaries.

A Resonance Space in Pückler's Breakfast Room

For the historic breakfast room, the artists created large-format works that unfold fantasies and visions of Pückler's journey through the Orient. The works also refer to the world-connecting principle of his landscapes and open up an aesthetic experience between memory, wanderlust, and cultural translation.

Art History, Landscape, and Contemporary

The exhibition focuses on Pückler as a world wanderer, landscape designer, and imaginative historical figure. His garden art is not viewed as a completed era, but as a starting point for a vibrant curatorial approach and new considerations of the works. In the interplay of spatial effects, image surfaces, photography, and painterly condensation, a special reflective space of cultural education emerges.

Admission and Visiting

The exhibition is open on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission for adults is 11 euros, reduced 8 euros including castle entry. Children and youth up to 18 years visit the exhibition free of charge.

The exhibition atmosphere in Schloss Branitz makes the visit an art experience that intertwines historical spaces, landscape art, and contemporary imagery.
