Chris Hinze at BLMK: An Exhibition Between Silence, Space, and Image

With Chris Hinze. Fragments of a Path, the Brandenburg State Museum for Modern Art dedicates a two-part solo exhibition to the Cottbus artist at the Diesel Power Plant Cottbus. From April 25 to June 14, 2026, an art experience unfolds here that brings installation, painting, graphics, and sculpture into a dense dialogue. At the center is a new, site-specific spatial work that makes the exhibition space itself a medium of perception.

An Art Experience Between Architecture and Contemplation

In Machine House 1, visitors encounter the space-filling installation Room of Silence. Sculptural-architectural interventions and subtle sound transform the museum architecture into an experiential space where movement, perception, and contemplation intertwine. The exhibition does not rely on distance but on immediate aesthetic experience.

Artwork Examination: From Image Language to Spatial Presence

The second part in Switching House 3 provides an overview of central groups of works from various phases of creation. Works in various techniques, including painting, graphics, and sculpture, are shown. The presentation makes visible how Chris Hinze's oeuvre has developed from an experimental connection of material, space, and image language.

Hinze, born in 1969 in Cottbus, has been working as a freelance artist since 1992. His practice combines visual arts and music, influenced by performance experience, archaic symbol worlds, and mythological motifs. The exhibition also sheds light on his ongoing interest in the relationship between humans and nature as well as boundary transgressions as an intellectual, physical, and aesthetic possibility.

The Diesel Power Plant as a Strong Place for Modern Art

BLMK at the Cottbus site is among the most important institutions for modern and contemporary art in Brandenburg. The collection includes over 45,000 works, making the museum a central place for cultural education in the region. The exhibition benefits from the special spatial impact of the former power plant: industrial architecture, light, and openness provide an impressive stage for the curation.

Visit, Education, and Tours

Accompanying the exhibition, a tour with Ulrike Kremeier is planned for May 21, 2026. The museum also offers a wide range of art educational programs that deepen the exhibition visit for various target groups. The barrier-free access via elevator facilitates entry to the exhibition rooms.

Conclusion

Chris Hinze. Fragments of a Path promises an exhibition of rare density: sensual, reflective, and spatially penetrating. Those who want to experience contemporary art in its connection of music, sculpture, installation, and image language should visit this presentation live at BLMK Cottbus.
